Mount Hood from Powell Butte. Powell Butte is still within the Portland city limits. In fact, it only took us about twenty minutes to get out there. I know I keep mentioning how much I love Portland, especially because of all the easily accessible outdoors stuff–Powell Butte is actually right on one of the main bus lines.
Anyway, the man and I went for a nice hike last Tuesday on Powell Butte. It was yet another unseasonably warm and clear day so we had to take advantage of it.
There’s something about this place that draws me into the outdoors. Never in my life have I wanted so badly to be outside and in nature. It’s not that I’ve ever been against being outside but I’ve never understood the point of going hiking. Just walking around in the forest. Couldn’t I be inside somewhere warm and protected from the elements?
Here in Oregon, though, there’s an energy that pulls me out into it. Probably part of it is the temperate climate, but it’s something more. I still haven’t been able to put my finger on it. I guess energy is the best explanation.
In any event, I’m sure it’s a good thing. And just one other reason I love living here.
(PS I’ve now been in Oregon for a year officially.)
